ఈనాడు, విశాఖపట్నం: విశాఖ ఉక్కు కర్మాగారంలో సోమవారం ఒక ప్రమాదం కాదు.. ఒకేలాంటి రెండు ప్రమాదాలు చోటుచేసుకున్నట్లు తేలింది. స్టీల్ మెల్ట్ షాప్ (ఎస్ఎంఎస్-1)లో పెను ప్రమాదం జరగడానికి ముందే ఎస్ఎంఎస్-2లోనూ దుర్ఘటన జరిగినట్లు వెలుగులోకి వచ్చింది. సోమవారం సాయంత్రం 3.57 గంటలకు లాడిల్లో పేలుడు సంభవించి సుమారు 60 టన్నుల ఉక్కు ద్రవం ఒలికిపోయింది. కన్వర్టర్ నుంచి సెకండరీ మెటలర్జీకి లాడర్ వచ్చేటప్పుడు కార్ నిలిపి క్రేన్తో ఎత్తే సమయంలో ఈ బ్లాస్టింగ్ జరిగినట్లు గుర్తించారు. శాశ్వత ఉద్యోగులు నలుగురు, ఇన్ఛార్జులు ఇద్దరు, పది మంది కళాసీలు మొత్తం 16 మంది ఈ ప్రమాదం నుంచి తప్పించుకున్నారు. ప్రమాదం గురించి తెలిసి తోటి ఉద్యోగులు ఫోన్లు చేయగా, యోగక్షేమాలు చెబుతూ.. ‘మృత్యుంజయులం’ అంటూ వాట్సప్ గ్రూప్లలో మెసేజ్లు పెట్టారు. ఆ తర్వాత కొద్దిసేపటికే 4.25 గంటలకు ఎస్ఎంఎస్-1లో భారీ పేలుడు సంభవించి 8 మంది అక్కడికక్కడే మరణించారు. ఎస్ఎంఎస్-2లో మొదట సెకండరీ మెటలర్జీ వద్ద లాడల్లో పేలుడు జరిగింది. ఎస్ఎంఎస్-1లో కంటిన్యూ క్యాస్టింగ్ డిపార్ట్మెంట్ (సీసీడీ) నుంచి మిషన్-2కు పంపుతుండగా బ్లాస్టింగ్ చోటుచేసుకుంది. ‘నా 30 ఏళ్ల అనుభవంలో ఒకే రకమైన ప్రమాదం ఒకే డిపార్ట్మెంట్ అయిన ఎస్ఎంఎస్-1, 2లలో చూడటం ఇదే మొదటిసారి’ అని ఐఎన్టీయూసీ కార్యదర్శి కోరాడ వెంకట్రావు తెలిపారు.
6 నెలల కిందటే భద్రతపై ఫిర్యాదు
‘విశాఖ స్టీల్ ప్లాంట్ యాజమాన్యం భద్రతా నిబంధనలను నిర్లక్ష్యం చేయడంతో ప్రాణాంతక ప్రమాదాలు జరుగుతున్నాయి. ఇండస్ట్రియల్ డిస్ప్యూట్ అండర్ సెక్షన్ 2(కే) ప్రకారం భద్రతా నిబంధనల ఉల్లంఘన, పునరావృతం అవుతున్న ప్రమాదాలపై చర్యలు తీసుకోండి’ అంటూ ఏఐటీయూసీ యూనియన్ కేంద్ర రీజియన్ డిసెంబరు 9న లేబర్ కమిషనర్కు లేఖ రాసింది. 2024 జనవరి నుంచి 20 మంది మరణించారని, 200 మందికిపైగా క్షతగాత్రులయ్యారని అయితే ప్రమాదాలపై విచారణ నివేదికలూ విడుదల చేయలేదని లేఖలో పేర్కొన్నారు. గతేడాది జరిగిన ప్రమాదాల వివరాలతో ఈ ఏడాది మార్చిలో డైరెక్టర్ ఆఫ్ ఫ్యాక్టరీస్కు సైతం ఫిర్యాదుచేశారు.

Shortly after that, at 4.25 a.m., a huge explosion occurred in SMS-1, killing 8 people on the spot. In SMS-2 there was an explosion in a ladle at secondary metallurgy first. The blasting took place while SMS-1 was being sent from the Continuous Casting Department (CCD) to Mission-2. 'In my 30 years of experience, this is the first time that I have seen the same type of accident in the same department, SMS-1 and 2,' said INTUC Secretary Korada Venkatarao.

'Fatal accidents are happening due to the neglect of safety rules by the management of Visakha Steel Plant. On December 9, the AITUC union wrote a letter to the Labor Commissioner, Central Region, saying, "Take action against repeated accidents and violation of safety rules under Section 2(k) of the Industrial Dispute."
