Eenadu, Hyderabad-Redhills, Nampally. Newstoday: A massive fire broke out in the Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), which collects and analyzes evidence scientifically in many cases across the state, on Saturday. The accident took place in a room on the first floor of the Zee Plus Two building in Hyderabad's Nampally, where physical evidence seized in various cases was stored. Officials found that around 40-50 computers were burnt. The Nampally police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. It is being analyzed whether it happened by accident... or whether there is a hidden conspiracy. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief as there was no loss of life in the incident. At 10.30 am, the staff ran out of the computer room of the forensic lab after seeing thick smoke coming out. The officeboy tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher but failed. As the intensity of the fire increased and the smoke was thick, he got trapped in it and fell ill. On receiving the information, firemen and 108 ambulance immediately reached the FSL office. 108 staff gave first aid to the office boy and shifted him to Osmania Hospital. Crews with six firefighters worked for three hours and brought the fire under complete control. A robotic machine was deployed along with fire fighters. On receiving the information, FSL DG Shikhagoyal, Fire Department DG Vikramsingh Man, Hyderabad North Range DIG Shwetha Reddy along with police personnel participated in rescue operations at the scene.  Shikha Goyal said in a statement that the property related to the case and the equipment belonging to FSL are safe and sound. We suspect that there may have been an electric shock at the switch board in the computer room in a corner of the first floor. Computers, printers, research equipment, scanners and furniture were burnt due to an accident in the computer and software engineer's room. I cannot say which case's evidence was burnt,' explained Vikram Singh Man.

  • 40 to 50 computers, laptops, valuable hard disks, documents, Hyderabad District Fire Department Officer Shridas said that things like pen drives were completely burnt. All the chemical lab material is on the second floor. "There was no accident," he told the media. Khairatabad DCP Shilpavalli was asked by the media whether the FSL staff were questioned about the evidence of the phone tapping case.. "That is not our priority. "We tried to bring the fire under control and save the people inside," he replied.

FSL is very important in the investigation of cases

FSL plays a vital role in the investigation of various cases. All other evidence including blood, hair, fingerprints, weapons, bullets, documents forgery or not, DNA samples, analysis of electronic devices are examined in the lab and reports are prepared. These evidences are crucial in court judgments. The impact of this accident on the investigation of cases is a matter of concern.
