Jammalamadugu Rural, Newstoday: Permission is given to collect a certain amount in cash from those who visit ancient buildings and ancient temples within the jurisdiction of any Panchayat. That too is charged only for vehicles. Some of it will be allocated for the development of that village. However, it is different in Gandi Kota, a popular tourist destination. Instead of the panchayat, the tourism department will charge Rs.20 - Rs. Collecting fee up to 30.

Gandi for panchayat revenue:In September last year, a toll gate was set up one kilometer away from Gandi Kota on the orders of the then Collector Sivashankar. From Monday to Friday, each person entering the fort will have to pay Rs. 20, Rs. 30 on Saturdays and Sundays. It has been decided to allocate 20 percent of the income to the Panchayat. He also said that employment opportunities will be provided to the locals. It has been more than a year since the maintenance of the toll gate. Collections from visitors reached Rs. Apart from the payment of salaries to the staff, the Panchayat has not spent any money.

Income to private individuals

  • Some resorts have been set up in Gandikota without the permission of the Panchayat. They are charging huge amount from the visitors.
  • Recently, tent racket has been raised at Pennaloya view point. While collecting money from the visitors, the infrastructure is not being provided to the tourists. Not even a rupee is being paid to the panchayat.
  • Same is the case with the administrators of horse riding and adventure sports academy. They are also not paying any tax to the panchayat.
  • The archeology department has not even provided drinking water accommodation in the fort to the visitors coming to Gandikota. Locks have been hanging on the toilets for a few months.

We will take the matter of tollgate maintenance and funds due to the Panchayat to the attention of the higher authorities and resolve it. Resort managers under panchayat have to pay taxes. We have also issued notices to non-payers.
