New Delhi:Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Deepke has been released, while party leaders Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka have had to remain in judicial custody for five days. While Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka defied police orders and entered the Jantar Mantar to protest, Deepke was detained before reaching the venue of the 'Lehra Do Tiranga' rally on Friday. Police sources said that is why Deepke got bail.
After being released, Deepke shared the photo of his colleagues Das and Ranka on social media X. "Waiting for my brothers to be released," he said. Deepke was produced before the Special Executive Magistrate at Mandir Marg on Saturday. He was ordered to submit a bond of Rs.50,000 and give an assurance that he will not disturb the law and order. Later, he came out of the police station.
Deepke, Das and Ranka have been dealt with under the provisions of the same Act, but the circumstances of their affairs are different, officials said. Another case has been registered against Deepke under sections 126 and 170 of the Indian Civil Protection Code (BNSS) for breach of peace and order. Section 170 provides the power of arrest to prevent the commission of an offence. Section 126 enables the executive magistrate to order bond to keep the peace.
Shinde released under similar terms
CJP's Ajinkya Shinde, who appeared under similar terms on October 14, was released on bond not to disturb the peace for six months. Das, however, was accused of illegal entry into ranks, violation of bond terms and obstructing the duties of a government employee. The Delhi Police said that the magistrate was of the opinion that there is a risk of breaking the law again if released.
On October 13, the police alleged that Das, Ranka, Shinde and 11 others entered the Jantar Mantar through a private place. Earlier on October 11, Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar had issued an order removing the area from the list of places allowed for protests. A total of 14 people were detained on the charges of obstructing police duties.
Das and Ranka were detained earlier during a protest and given a bond of Rs 50,000 each, police said, to keep the peace for a year. Alleged breach of that promise. Their judicial custody will end on October 18. On the other hand, the protests continue in the wake of the dispute over the Special Comprehensive Amendment (SIR) of the voter lists and the demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. In these developments, further legal actions against CJP leaders and decisions on the release of protesters will become crucial.
