Has NTA performance changed?

UWhat does it mean if the same heinous crimes are repeated again and again in the conduct of important competitive exams that will decide the future of India? These are not the results of the laziness of a few people in the National Testing Agency (NTA)... they are evidence of how the system as a whole has gone astray with indifference to the responsibilities that should be performed with unwavering dedication! It is NTA's duty to conduct examinations of international standards in an efficient and transparent manner to assess the abilities of candidates for admission to higher educational institutions. In that it repeatedly fails and destroys the hopes of the students and the dreams of their parents! While the concerns raised in the wake of 'NEET'-UG question paper leakage and examination cancellation are still fresh, the work of NTA regarding UGC-NET has also come to light. The NTA, which admitted that English, Commerce and Sociology papers were flawed in the UGC-NET exams held last June, has recently announced that those three exams will be held again next month. Instead of holding hands like this, if proper screening mechanism and security arrangements had been made beforehand, wouldn't more than one and a half lakh students have had to suffer? Candidates also miss the plight of losing valuable time on the path of jobs and taking a step forward in research education!  

Lakhs of youth write UGC-NET every year to qualify for junior research fellowships, appointments as assistant professors, PhD admissions. As a part of that, the students who appeared for the English, Commerce and Sociology exams recently noticed the errors in the question papers and got upset. From mistakes in names, words and translations to repeating many questions from old papers as if there were many, he expressed deep concern over the incompetent management of NTA. More than 60 percent of the questions in the English and Commerce papers are from the December 2024 exam, which has been heavily criticized. In the case of Sociology, there were reports that a 100-page PDF with handwritten questions had already been circulated, and 90 of the questions appeared in the original exam as is. NTA, which responded promptly after 45 days after many complaints about such things, decided to cancel the three exams. Habitual carelessness in designing question papers, abject failure to keep them confidential, recklessness in taking quick decisions and reassuring students... all this is unforgivable! 

The Union Education Department recently ordered the NTA to conduct a comprehensive audit on all examination processes and submit a report on the UGC-NET farce. More than fifty employees of the company were also attacked. To prevent such incidents from happening again, the recommendations made by Radhakrishnan Committee should be fully implemented to improve the performance of NTA. The task force recently appointed by the Center under the leadership of Nandan Nilekani should also give detailed instructions on the steps to be taken for the thorough cleaning of the competitive examinations. There should be transparency in selection for government jobs. Governments should take care that no injustice is done to the youth who study hard and appear for exams!
