Water Disputes: Central committee to discuss water

Today, Hyderabad: The Union Ministry of Water Resources has issued orders to form a committee with 12 members headed by the chairman of the Central Water Association to discuss the issues of river water between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Four members were appointed from two states each. It said that this committee was formed in accordance with the decision taken in the meeting of the Chief Ministers of the two states held on July 16 last year under the chairmanship of the Minister of Hydropower. The committee will be chaired by the Chairman of the Central Water Society (CWC), and the members will be Irrigation Department Adviser, Chief Secretary, Special Secretary, ENC (General) from Telangana... Water Resources Department Special Chief Secretary, Adviser, ENC (Irrigation) from Andhra Pradesh and Chief Engineer of Interstate Water Resources Department. Apart from them, the Chairman of Krishna and Godavari River Management Boards, Chief Engineer of National Water Development Authority (NWDA) and Chief Engineer (Project Appraisal Organization) of Central Water Society will act as Member Secretary. 

Instructions on water ownership...

The committee will focus on comprehensively and technically examining the many points expressed by the two states regarding water resources... making suggestions regarding water ownership and ensuring that water distribution is implemented fairly and firmly. The committee has to submit its report within 3 months. The committee has been given the opportunity to take the help of other officers and experts if necessary. Earlier, during the discussion on Godavari-Banakachar, the issue of this committee came up. The Ministry of Water Power has revealed that the current committee's responsibilities will examine issues related to water between the two states without mentioning Godavari and Krishna.
