GHMC: Amendment to GHMC Act.. High Court Notices

Hyderabad: The High Court has issued notices to the government asking it to explain the ordinance issued to amend the GHMC Act. It adjourned the hearing and directed to file a counter within four weeks. A petition was filed challenging Ordinances 9, 10 and 11 issued to amend the GHMC Act for the merger of Tukkuguda Municipality and others into GHMC. Barigela Raju of Tukkuguda filed this petition. 

The CJ bench took up the investigation. L Ravichander, senior counsel for the petitioner, told the court that Tukkuguda was merged with GHMC through an ordinance issued by the government. He said that the petitioner wants to contest in the next municipal elections, but due to the merger, the boundaries will change and other things will be affected. He said that there was no consultation with the Municipal Corporation before the notification and it was not transparent. After hearing the arguments, the bench issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Law Department and Municipal Urban Development Department. Adjourned the hearing directing to file counters within 4 weeks.
