అధ్వానం నుంచి ఆహ్లాదంగా..
అధ్వాన స్థితి నుంచి అద్భుతమైన రీతిలో తీర్చిదిద్దడానికి అహ్మదాబాద్ మున్సిపల్ కార్పొరేషన్ పాతికేళ్లుగా చేసిన కృషి కనిపిస్తోంది. సబర్మతి నది పునరుజ్జీవానికి కంకణం కట్టుకున్న అధికారులు 1997లో నదీ ముఖద్వార అభివృద్ధి సంస్థ పేరుతో స్పెషల్ పర్పస్ వెహికల్ను ఏర్పాటు చేశారు. అహ్మదాబాద్ నగరం మధ్యలోంచి వెళుతున్న నదీ తీరాన్ని ఆహ్లాదకరంగా తీర్చిదిద్దాలని సంకల్పించారు. రెండువైపులా గట్ల పరిరక్షణపై తొలుత దృష్టి పెట్టారు. 10 మీటర్ల కంటే ఎక్కువ లోతులో నదీగర్భంలో డయాఫ్రమ్ గోడలు నిర్మించారు. ఆకస్మిక వరదల నుంచి లోతట్టు ప్రాంతాలను రక్షించడానికి ఇవి ఎంతగానో ఉపయోగపడ్డాయి. నది ప్రవాహ మార్గానికి అనుగుణంగా 263 మీటర్ల వెడల్పుతో విస్తరించారు. ఈ ప్రయత్నం వల్ల నగరంలోకి వరద వెళ్లకుండా అడ్డుకట్ట పడింది. నదిలో 4.75 లక్షల క్యూసెక్కుల నీరు కిందికి ప్రవహించేలా దోహదపడింది.
పక్కాగా మురుగునీటి మళ్లింపు
మురుగునీరు నదిలోకి రాకుండా కట్టడి చేయడం, పారిశ్రామిక వ్యర్థాలు సబర్మతిలో పడకుండా పటిష్ఠ చర్యలు చేపట్టారు. ఇందుకోసం ప్రత్యేక వ్యవస్థను ఏర్పాటు చేశారు. మురుగునీరు ప్రవహించే కాలువలను నదికి రెండు వైపులా ఉన్న కాలువలకు అనుసంధానం చేసి 38 పాయింట్లలో మురుగునీటిని సేకరించి వాస్నా బ్యారేజీకి దక్షిణంగా ఏర్పాటు చేసిన మురుగునీటి శుద్ధి ప్లాంట్లకు తరలిస్తున్నారు. సబర్మతి నది వర్షాకాలంలోనే ప్రవహిస్తుంది. ఏడాది పొడవునా నదిలో నీటిని పారించటానికీ ఒక సమగ్ర వ్యూహాన్ని రూపొందించారు. వాస్నా బ్యారేజీ కట్టి నీరు నిల్వ ఉండేలా చేశారు. అహ్మదాబాద్కు దిగువన ఉన్న వాస్నా బ్యారేజ్, నగరంలో నది పొడవునా మొత్తం 15 కిలోమీటర్ల మేర నీరు నిల్వ ఉంటూ జలసిరులతో అలరారుతోంది. నీటినిల్వతో వినోద కార్యకలాపాలకు వీలు కలగడమే కాకుండా, భూగర్భ జలాలు పెరుగుతున్నాయని అక్కడి అధికారులు వివరిస్తున్నారు.
వినోదం.. వలస పక్షుల ఆవాసం
నదిలో చిన్నపాటి వ్యర్థానికీ ఆస్కారం లేకుండా ఫ్లోటింగ్ ట్రాష్ స్కిమ్మర్ మెషిన్ ద్వారా ఎప్పటికప్పుడు శుభ్రం చేయిస్తున్నారు. దీంతో ఎటుచూసినా సుందర దృశ్యాలు కనువిందు చేస్తున్నాయి. రెండువైపులా గట్ల వెంబడి విరివిగా మొక్కలు నాటడంతో పచ్చదనంతో కళకళలాడుతున్నాయి. అక్కడకక్కడా బెంచీలు, వాకింగ్ట్రాక్లు ఏర్పాటు చేయడంతో ఉదయం, సాయంత్రం వేళల్లో స్థానికుల రద్దీతో సందడి వాతావరణం నెలకొంటోంది. నదీతీరం నుంచి రోడ్డుకు మధ్యలో 20 మీటర్లకుపైగా వెడల్పు ప్రాంతాన్ని అందంగా తీర్చిదిద్ది, మొక్కలు పెంచి విద్యుత్తు దీపాలతో అలంకరించడంతో రాత్రివేళ అత్యంత సుందరంగా కనిపిస్తోంది. నదిపై నిర్మించిన అటల్ వంతెనపై వివిధ రంగులలో వెలిగే విద్యుత్తు దీపాలు, వంతెన ఆకృతి ప్రత్యేకంగా ఆకట్టుకుంటున్నాయి. అనేక రకాల వలస పక్షులకూ ఆవాస ప్రాంతమై జీవ వైవిధ్యానికి నెలవుగా తయారైంది.
