Smoking and drinking are known to be harmful to health. Researchers say that combining these two is more dangerous. It is said that these habits are also related to each other. 

• Even people who don't smoke regularly, tend to pull their bowels when they drink alcohol. Is there any connection between the two? asked CCMB investigators. Their research has shown that the nicotine in tobacco increases the desire to drink alcohol... and the desire to take nicotine is stronger for those who drink alcohol.
• They explain that alcohol and nicotine become paired in the learning circuit of the brain with repeated intake... This explains that if you take one, you want nicotine. 

• CCMB experts say that this method increases the risk of diseases even more and becomes fatal. Both these addictions are said to increase the risk of cancer and heart disease and lead to psychological problems.  
• To reduce these addictions separately, there are drugs for withdrawal treatment. However, the treatment was less effective in those with both habits. Targeting one leads to the other leading to binge drinking.
• Glutamate is the reason why alcohol and tobacco go together. It is the largest excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain. Alcohol and nicotine increase glutamate. The researchers say that the situation will get worse if we want to get rid of the dependence at the same time. In this context, the new drugs should be aimed at stopping both nicotine and alcohol.
• How do the neuronal cells in the brain communicate with each other? There is already an understanding of the effect of nicotine and alcohol on this process. Neurons and the chemicals they release (neurotransmitters) cause a variety of sensations, including pleasure and relaxation.

Any addiction can be broadly defined by the release of a chemical called dopamine. Dopamine is released more when alcohol and nicotine are taken together.

• Here the feeling of pleasure stimulates certain neurons involved in a process called reward circuitry, forcing people to consume more of the substance that produces that feeling again. Food, sex, and social interactions activate this circuitry. But recent studies have shown that brain function is much broader than reward circuitry.
• The most abundant excitatory neurotransmitter is glutamate, but the most abundant inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain is gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA). Both of these together play a role in the dependence of alcohol and nicotine on each other.
• Alcohol alone acts as a stimulant in the reward circuitry by increasing the release of dopamine. Brings joy and happiness.
