Posters put up Biryani only from Hindu shops

Posters put up Biryani only from Hindu shops

Siliguri:Durga in the city of Siliguri, West Bengal. The posters put up in the puja mandaps led to a huge controversy. In these posters put up in various parts of the city under the auspices of the 'Hindu Jagran Manch', people were asked to buy biryani and puja materials only from Hindu shops. As the scenes related to these posters were widely circulated on social media, a large-scale discussion started locally.

The representatives of Hindu Jagran Manch, Prashant Sarkar and Abhishek Das responded to this controversy. They argued that this campaign was undertaken with the intention of supporting them by buying from local Hindu traders, thereby strengthening the local economy and increasing people's income.

This move was strongly condemned by the Left. CPM senior leader and former minister Ashok Bhattacharya said that it is a crime to put up such religious posters in a democratic country. Stating that the Constitution of India has given equal rights to all citizens and it is not right to link one's livelihood with religion, the police immediately intervened and removed the posters and demanded strict action against the organizers. BJP workers claimed that Hindu Jagran Manch is an independent organization and their party has nothing to do with the issue of these posters. Locals reminded on this occasion that food was never seen on religious basis in Bengali culture and Muslim artists participate in the decoration of Durga Puja Mandapalas.
