Giving a second chance!

Growing age means gaining experience! Once upon a time such elders were at home. Now they are ignoring them. So, more people are left alone in old age. Mateen Ansari is giving such people a 'second chance' in life.

Growing age means gaining experience! Once upon a time such elders were at home. Now they are ignoring them. So, more people are left alone in old age. Mateen Ansari is giving a 'second chance' in life to such people. Those details were shared with 'Vasundhara'...

OKada all were joint families. Adults used to be the home of love. I grew up in such an environment. Born and brought up in Hyderabad. I completed my degree from Nizam College. Married at the age of 18. Habib Ansari was also made a judge of the combined Andhra Pradesh High Court. While he was working in Kolkata, he saw some elders there. People who talk or suffer from loneliness. Earnings or rejections. Madi is a big family. All the family members worked as lawyers and administrators. My mother used to take care of my grandmother and grandmother. Growing up watching it, this style not only surprised me... it had a huge impact on me. After a few years, we went to America for our grandchildren and great grandchildren. I will be 50 by then! Am I entering old age too...I am curious to see how my journey will unfold. That's why I did some courses there. They changed my perspective. I completed my Master's in Gerontology from the University of Southern California to gain an in-depth understanding of the physical, mental and emotional changes that occur with age. After understanding myself, I started 'dobara' for others. This name was suggested by our girl Sameen.

Hence the name

My intention is that everyone should get another chance to learn, make friends, enjoy... especially to see life in a new light. That's why we put 'Dobara' to understand the same. Although the services were actually started in 2014, the foundation was registered in 2017. Ours is not an old age home. A platform that helps the elderly to enjoy life again, share creativity and find out what they want. See after retirement...greetings will be reduced. They are busy with their grandchildren, great-grandchildren and children. Due to this, many are financially settled and feel lonely even if they have all the comforts. Our main goal is to get rid of it in them and make them spend it happily, between the four of them. Morning walks, picnics, book reading, tambola sessions, potluck lunches, playing board games, art, craft, planting... We provide referrals to helpers, connections to senior communities, emotional support, legal and social support. A nominal fee is charged annually from the members. We also have volunteers. There is a sustainable company called Dobara Almari. We sell recycled and upcycled old items there. We will fund them.

Same happiness...

So far we have helped more than 8 thousand people. All those who recognized their talent with our encouragement. They are trying many new things like poetry, knitting, singing, arts. Some are guiding the youth. Volunteering in various fields. Even with a physical disability... there are adults who try to be emotionally supportive of others. There are many people who have changed their lives like this! Many dismiss the elders as ignorant but... they are walking history. That is why we bring them together with the children who want to know the culture, the changes they have seen and the problems they have faced. We will take school children along with the elderly to old age homes and government hospitals to introduce empathy and spend time with elders. Received many awards in this program. But the joy on the faces of the elders, when they stand by each other and enjoy their old age is different.
