Today, Delhi: 'You rich people.. arrange private security', says former Vaikapa The Supreme Court Bench referred to MLA Katasani Rambhupal Reddy. Police security has become status quo these days, she questioned why government money should be spent on it. The Supreme Court Chief Justice Suryakant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi bench heard on Tuesday the petition filed by Katasani challenging the removal of 2+2 security by the state government. Senior advocate Parameshwar, appearing on behalf of the petitioner, pointed out to the bench that ignoring the fact that six of the petitioner's family members had been killed, the state government had provided security to his opponents and taken him away. When there are two factional groups, one should not be given security. The judges did not agree with those arguments. "Nowadays private security agencies are providing effective security rather than the police. So get rid of the narcissism of having khaki security. You are powerful with money. So use your money power for security. All your pain doesn't mean you're safe. The same is given to your opponents. It is stated in the petition that the opponents have threatened to cut out the tongue. Such comments are common. Justice Joymalya Bagchi stated that it does not mean that they will be physically cut.
CJI Justice Suryakant opined that such words are commonly used in some states. "Security is not about policy. It is based on threat. It is the responsibility of the state to protect the life and liberty of every citizen. Whether you or other citizens are the same. If you are not a threat to anyone, then no one is a threat to you. Why should government money be spent on security?'' he asked. If you are willing to put your own money into it, get a private security. What is the obstacle to hiring a private agency for your security?'' asked the CJI. They reminded that if you go to the program that day, you will be under house arrest with the intention of inciting violence again. The lawyer stated that the petitioner was a member of the opposition party and said, "You are not the main opposition leader. He lost the 2024 election. If he had won, there would have been security," said Justice Bagchi. Later, CJI Justice Suryakant intervened and said, "Anyone can join a political party by paying Rs. 500-1000. Later, since I am a member of the opposition party, I can ask for security," he said. Reminding that there will be intelligence agencies in the government to assess the threat, they will scientifically determine the threat based on the information given by them, and there are clear procedures for that, leaving the freedom to the state police to take a decision based on the need.
