Until a few years ago she was an ordinary housewife... but now Becoming an agripreneur not only earns income but also acts as a guide to hundreds of farmers. She is Shobhadevi who is known as the queen of mushrooms.
Shobha Devi is Tikha in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar. She went to Saudi Arabia for employment with her husband Raj Kishore Mahat. They have three children. The years of her life passed by raising children and taking care of her in-laws. They supported the family with the meager income sent by the husband. Did you think that if you do something, you can support the family? But, to start a small business, the minimum investment is not in hand. That got me thinking. At the same time, the state government started forming self-help groups. Provided training in various skills for women to achieve economic self-reliance. For this, loans are granted at low interest rates. Shobha joined it. One day the group leader called her and told her that they are implementing the Agriculture Entrepreneur (AE) program as part of Jeevika Yojana scheme. If you are interested, you are advised to join it. Shobha agreed to that. This decision changed her future.
Changed thinking...
Shobhadevi received training for 21 days in Agriculture Entrepreneur Program. As part of this, experts imparted knowledge on modern agriculture, business management, financial discipline, nursery management, mushroom cultivation, vermicomposting, mulching methods and grain business. Apart from this, cost management, increasing profits and communication with farmers were also taught. All these brought a change in Shobhadevi's thoughts. It changed the way she looked at the world. After that, the preparation of vermicompost was taken up. The income from the sales boosted her confidence. On the other hand, mushroom cultivation has started. The profits from this were reinvested in it and expanded the business. As the journey progressed, another loan was taken and an agricultural service center was set up. Without proper understanding, farmers used to apply excessive fertilizers and use wrong varieties. Due to this the crop was damaged. To prevent this from happening, he started providing accurate advice to farmers on soil management, crop cultivation and pest related problems through his agricultural service center. Around 400 farmers are Sobha customers. Have you started marketing mushrooms with the help of this network? With these, they are getting a steady income of around Rs. 15-20 thousand per month. The benefits of the change in her life did not stop with her. It has made agriculture profitable for hundreds of farmers from surrounding villages. That's why Shobha is called the mushroom queen.
