In this context, Santa Maheshwari, executive leader of 'EY Global Delivery Services', suggested that students should focus on future opportunities. Attending a program at Gitam University, she spoke to 'Eenadu'.
On skills..:Visakha has announced that Google will invest as a centre. There are indications that more institutions will come in the future. Large scale data management is going to happen. Students have opportunities in data management, cloud storage, data analytics etc. Regarding these, it is better to focus on skills from now. Visakhapatnam students need to be prepared to take advantage of those opportunities.
Experiential:Students learn mostly experientially. They should be encouraged to create experiments and projects, not just limited to textbooks. Awareness should be created from the college level. By visiting industries, one can know in advance what is happening there and prepare for future needs.
Interest in Innovations:Some colleges are setting up Innovation Centers, Centers of Excellence, Incubation Labs. They spend a lot of money on them. Such arrangements should be made as early as possible in every college. This will increase students' interest in innovation. The curiosity to become entrepreneurs starts among them.
Teach by doing:Children are operating caravans even before they go to school. They are watching their favorite cartoon videos on the phone. Technology is hidden in every aspect. Girls should be made aware of technology as early as possible. Focus on teaching them through fun activities.
Learning more deeply:Technology can be beneficial if used in the right way. Engineering students need to learn the fundamentals as well as the technology in depth. To achieve the goal of Vikasit Bharat, focus should be on manufacturing products with indigenous knowledge. Plans should be made to export them to the countries of the world.
Changes in curriculum:Visakha is going to become a tech hub. Many changes are happening in industries in real time. Colleges and educational institutes in the vicinity of the city should re-examine and revise the curriculum according to the future needs. Technology should be included in the curriculum and students of all departments like civil and mechanical should be made aware of technology.
