The pledge written by Paidimarri Venkatasubba Rao that says 'India is my motherland...' comes to mind. Nine sentences in it are new ways of patriotism. Reformative proposals that will help you become a better citizen. Only when we understand the essence of this pledge will we grow up to be the best citizens.

India is my motherland

Many Indian texts, famous people like Gandhiji, Tagore have explained the importance of motherland. In the Ramayana, Rama compares Janmabhoomi with his mother saying 'Janani Janmabhoomischa Swargadapi Gariyasi'. Just as there is no substitute for Motherland, there is no Motherland. It is our culture to worship mother as 'Mother Devobhav'. Taking all these into account, Pidimarri made an experiment called 'Matru Bhoomi' for Janmabhoomi.

All Indians are my brothers

Sahabhu means one mother. It means that they are born from the womb. Pidimarri used this word after much research. All the children of Bharata Bhoomi are our brothers and sisters. Spouse and relatives can be found anywhere in the country. But, there is a mention in the epic Ramayana that a beloved brother cannot be found. That is why Paidimarri said that Indians should bond with brotherhood and stay together till the end of life.

I love my country

Love is a supreme selfless feeling. The feeling of love first radiates and flows through blood ties. However, Pidimarri said that we Indians are all brothers and urged the country to show the sincere love that arises in childhood between the children of the same mother. Every Indian should strive to qualify for the heritage of this country. In order to inherit precious wealth, one must have the necessary qualifications. Commitment to the country, humanity and selflessness come to that category. Only when we have earned them can we proudly say that we are the heirs of Indianness.

I respect my parents, teachers and elders

The Paidimarri Pledge is divided into two parts and the first five sentences explain how all Indians belong to one family. The last four sentences describe the personal responsibilities of each family member, such as how they should behave towards other members and what they should do for that. The source of this is the Upanishad saying 'Mother Devobhava, Pitrudevobhava, Acharyadevobhava, Atithidevobhava'. To say that these four are to be treated as equals is a high sign of education, culture and respect.

Be polite to everyone

'Politeness' is a part of our way of life. Its origin is in Ramayana. In the Sundarakanda, Hanuman explains to Seethamma that 'Sri Rama is the one who establishes the manners of the world and makes others follow them'. That's why Rama is called as 'Maryada Purushottama'. He has many excellent qualities like truth, righteousness, righteousness, good behavior, ideal family man, proud, modest and peaceful. Politeness is the combination of all the best qualities. That is why Pidimarri wished every person to be a complete person with all virtues.

I will be devoted to my country and my people

Whenever you develop a relationship with family members, you will naturally accompany them in their hardships and joys. Both sacrifice and service go hand in hand. A selfless person can serve others. A servant can sacrifice for others. It can be said that service is a pillar of the edifice of patriotism.

Their prosperity is the source of my happiness

The prosperity and development of others gives us happiness. We need to understand how sacred the closing sentence in the vow is. The source of this is Advaita Siddhanta of Adi Shankara. When we believe that God is in us, God is in everyone else. The motto of Advaita is 'Each in You, You in Everyone'. When we can see that divinity in everyone, we can naturally be well-wishers to them. We wish for their development. We will find happiness in that.

I am proud of the rich and diverse heritage of my country

Our country has rich and invaluable physical, cultural, historical and natural resources. It is a symbol of our country's identity, civilization, cultural traditions and unique knowledge. We should consider it as a source of pride.

This 'pledge' is helpful for the establishment of the community and the balanced state of the society. The feeling that the whole nation is one family helps to promote national integrity, unity and sense of brotherhood. By believing this we can act as responsible citizens.
