Today, Hyderabad: Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu said that science should be taught in the mother tongue, only then the interest of the students will increase and they will be able to understand easily and the scientific views will be firmly rooted in the minds of the children. He said that our aim and destination is only one... to be at the top in science. Academy for Science, Technology and Communication (ASTC), jointly with 'Eenadu' and National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) Telangana Chapter organized a National Conference on 'Lab to Society: Role of Science Communication' at BM Birla Science Center Auditorium, Hyderabad on Thursday. Venkaiah Naidu was present as the chief guest and spoke. "Scientific topics should not be confined between four walls and should be brought to the front of the people and the goal of developed India should be accelerated.
All India Council of Technical Education and UGC are preparing curricula to enable science to be taught in the mother tongue. Science in laboratories should support the development of public sector. The main objective of science communication is to disseminate the knowledge gained through research to the whole society so that it can be useful in people's daily life. It is essential to bridge the information gap between researchers, public and policy makers. If science communication is not widespread, discoveries will be confined to academic journals. Policy decisions and public health programs are not effective. By effectively and widely communicating the research results, various studies to the people, it is possible to prepare the people to face the challenges like climate change and the harmful effect of pesticides on crops. If it is not possible to have a separate lab for each school, some schools should be combined to form a centralized lab. India ranks third in research after America and China. We have to improve in terms of horoscope and personality. Venkaiah Naidu stated that we are lagging behind in the filing of patents. It does not belong..
If science is taught in the mother tongue, the results will be excellent, said M. Nageswara Rao, Andhra Pradesh editor of 'Eenadu'. It is said that the policy of studying in mother tongue for the first year in IITs is also a good result. He said that the research done in the labs will be meaningful only when the complex science subjects are made popular and easily accessible to the common people. Scientists should not be limited to labs, they should go to schools, talk to the media and explain research to common people. Every media organization should have a separate desk for business and sports as well as for science. They stated that they are happy to be a partner of 'Enadu' in this program and they believe that a society without a scientific perspective will never develop.
So far only one...
'India is undoubtedly a science powerhouse right now but we have to ask ourselves honestly on some issues. Inspite of immense talent in the country, only CV Raman received the Nobel in science category as a citizen of the country. Even small countries like Germany and Japan are winning double digit number of Nobel Prizes. M.Nageswara Rao stated that the laboratory is as important to great science as the supporting scientific community.
CSIR-IICT Director Dr. D. Srinivas Reddy said. In Telugu states, more students are showing interest in engineering and medicine. He said they can make a real impact in society. I studied in Telugu medium till B.Sc. M.Sc also wanted to study in Telugu medium but had to switch to English medium. I think science teaching in local language is very important.Be alert against false information
ASTC Chairman, National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) Telangana Chapter Chairman Dr. CH Mohan Rao said that one should be alert against false information on WhatsApp and social media. When any tip or scientific topic goes viral, it should be believed only after confirming whether it is true or not. Honorary President of ASTC Dr. R. B. N. Prasad explained about the objectives of the conference. ASTC Secretary CL Narsimha Rao, Enadu Chief Sub Editor K. Suresh and others participated in the meeting.
India will not only be a scientifically developed country by 2047 but will also be a scientifically reliable country when the public's trust in science is enhanced, said Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, former DG of ICMR and former scientist of the World Health Organization.
''Sense is.. something that improves the life of the common man through things like health, food, space, internet. Two major factors that threaten our health are... food and air pollution. Clean air, water, nutritious food and sanitation are very important for health and well-being. To become a developed country by 2047, we need to focus on human resources. Despite food security in the country... micronutrient deficiency is high. A child's brain development takes place within the first five years. If proper nutrition is not provided at that time, it will affect the future of the country. Every school should have nutrition gardens. Problems like obesity and diabetes are increasing. All these depend on diet and lifestyle. Nutritious food like snacks should be encouraged.
Governor Jishnudev Varma said that science has always been a pillar of human progress..Governor Jishnudev Varma said that the real impact will be seen only when the knowledge in the laboratory is effectively conveyed to the society and converted into a social benefit. The Governor sent a message regarding this conference. 'Science communication plays a vital role in enhancing scientific perception and empowering citizens to make informed and responsible decisions. At a time when India is taking steps towards Vikasit Bharat 2047, it is very important to promote scientific knowledge in a reliable and accessible manner.
Though our daily life is completely dependent on science and technology, there are very few people who are aware of the developments in these fields, said CH Kiran, CMD of Ramoji Group of Companies. He sent a message addressing the conference. "We saw the benefits of effective science communication during Covid. Science communication in the mother tongue should be encouraged on a large scale if the fruits of the progress in the field of science are to reach the common man. Reliable science communication helps in curbing superstitions, misconceptions and misinformation that hinder development in the age of social media.
Dr. D. Raghunatha Rao, Professor of Medical Oncology, MNJ Cancer Hospital, said that between 2015 and 2023, deaths caused by tuberculosis in the country have been significantly reduced. There has been a decrease in the death rate, maternal and infant mortality due to dengue fever. We have significantly reduced deaths due to infectious diseases. We have achieved this feat because of vaccinations. But now the death due to heart problems is a concern. They are healthy only if they have proper physical activity and adequate rest.
Improving the nutrition of a child is not only about giving good food. ICMR-NIN scientist Dr. Subbarao M. Gavaravarapu said that during pregnancy, before... whether the woman is ready for it or not is very important. Such things should go widely to the people. After the baby is born, only breast milk should be given. Not even water is needed.
Dr. S. Venkatamohan, director of CSIR-Neeri, Nagpur, who recently received Vigyanshri awards, the highest award of the central government in science, Dr. K. Thangaraj, former director of CDFD, CCMB scientist, Dr. D. Balasubramaniam, former director of CCMB, NDTV Senior Science Editor Pallava Bagla was honored in the conference. M.
