ఆంధ్రా కురియన్‌ కాకాని

Dec 25 will be 53 years since the death of the late Kakani Venkataratnam. Even today, his services are remembered in every village and town. He was a man of the people who supported the welfare of the country as a relative of the rural farmer and laborer. Kakani Venkataratnam is a great person who grew step by step as a public leader.

He was an ideal leader who believed that his vocation was public service and spent his entire life with the people. The milk collection centers, cooling centers and district dairy industry centers established by him during his tenure as the agriculture minister in the united state contributed a lot to the economic self-sufficiency of the rural farmers. Thus rural youth got employment and job opportunities. That is why Kakani is called 'Andhra Kurian' by many people.

In the subsequent political developments, Kakani got a rare opportunity to spearhead the separate Andhra movement. The fruit of that mighty movement was realized 42 years after his death. The state today is taking a step forward with many development programs. The self-sacrifice of Potti Sriramulu was the reason for the emergence of Andhra state in 1953. It was Tyagamurthy Kakani who sacrificed himself in the movement to form Andhra Pradesh with the same 13 districts. Kakani died of a heart attack on the same night after seeing the dead bodies of activists killed in the police firing at Ajanta Hotel, Eluru Road Center against the broad mass movement against the unionist meeting called on December 24, 1972, 'My children are being shot like quails'. As a memorial to such a selfless leader, either a building in the new capital Amaravati or the iconic bridge connecting Krishna district to Amaravati should be named after Kakani. All public representatives of Krishna district should work for this.
