యూనస్‌ కళ్లు తెరుస్తారా!

Violence in Bangladesh, which is going to hold elections in two months, should be reduced now. Not visible. The killing of student leader Sharif Usman Hadi sparked nationwide protests last week. Violence broke out. A minority Hindu youth working in a garment factory was beaten to death for allegedly insulting religion. The offices of two major media organizations namely 'Pratham Aalo' and 'The Daily Star' were set on fire. Meanwhile, another student leader, National Citizen Party (NCP) local leader Motalab Shikder was shot dead by thugs on Monday. 

The then Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina's government, was in a state of corruption and turned the elections into a farce. In turning it in their favor, religious fanatics succeeded in inciting violence and attacking minority Hindus and women. Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, who is the chief advisor to the government, is watching all this with a blind eye. If the agitators are on the roads and creating destruction, he has not done anything as a government to stop them. It remains to be seen whether it is a skill or a strategy. 

After Hasina's exit, the succession events have sown the seeds of anarchy. The release of criminals from jails, the freedom of pro-Pakistani religious organizations like Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), etc. have led to incessant violence. Hasina's own party Awami League is not likely to contest in February next year, and the future of the party has become uncertain due to the serious illness of another major party Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Khaleda Zia, etc. 

They think that if they continue to provoke anti-India at this level, they will get power. Hadi is an active student leader. But he is a staunch opponent of JI. Spokesperson of another religious organization called 'Inquilab Mancha' (IM). Recently 'Pratham Aalo' magazine conducted a survey and said that JIK is more popular than IM. It has published a detailed article written by Asif Bin Ali, a research student in America, on the ongoing attacks on Varasabetti temples and dargahs in Bangladesh. All this turned into a scandal and IM mobs stormed the magazine's office. It is unpredictable where these groups will take the country, who do not even have the slightest understanding that Bangla emerged as a result of the Pakistani rulers trying to undermine their culture and language.

Religious organizations feel that the more anti-India they show, the more their popularity will increase. It seems that these organizations have forgotten to address the problem of high prices or unemployment facing the country, at least to say what they will do to end corruption, etc. Although Hadi may be anti-Indian, it is surprising that the government has remained silent while spreading rumors that India is behind the murder and that it has sheltered Hadi's killers. 

Such an attitude leads to anarchy. Democracy cannot collapse overnight. Prolonged anarchy and violence contribute to that. Those who spoke at Hadi's memorial meeting issued warnings to India, fixed a date to hand over Hasina and Hadi's killers... It is irresponsible for the government to watch this silently while the elections are looming. It is good for Yunus to know that if he does not prevent this anarchy in time, he will also be made a target by these forces in the future.
