A special felicitation program and book launch was held to celebrate Dr. Mashelkar's extraordinary academic milestone of receiving a record 54 honorary doctorates.

Study under street lamps to global recognition..
Addressing the audience, Ambani described the journey of Dr. Mashelkar who grew up from an ordinary boy who studied under the street lamps of Mumbai to become a world-class scientific icon. Ambani said. "He rose from poverty to world-class respect. This was due to his mother Anjani's love and his iron will." Ambani praised Mashelkar as many people struggle to get a degree in life, but he has earned 54 doctorates. He said that despite his stature, he remains very humble and the proverb "A tree full of fruits always bends down" fits him well.
Dr. Mashelkar's impact on Reliance Industries was the focus of the speech. Mashelkar, Prof. M.M. in shifting Reliance from a project-implementing company to a science-based innovation. Ambani acknowledged that Sharma's role was crucial.
The Reliance Innovation Council, established in 2000 at Mashelkar's suggestion, has changed the culture of the company, he revealed. Today, Reliance proudly says that it has more than 1,00,000 technicians. "He taught us to look at Reliance not as an industrial company but as a science company," said Ambani. Jio & Green Energy projects in particular are said to be vertical to Mashelkar's vision.
'Gandhi Engineering' and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Latest book written by Dr. Mashelkar was launched on the occasion. In it he explained the famous theory *"More from Less for More"* (producing more with less resources to benefit more people). This is what he calls 'Gandhi engineering'.
Applying this theory to the current artificial intelligence (AI) era, Ambani made an important point: "India should be a world leader in AI, but we must remember that 'technology without compassion...is just a machine'." He hoped that India could show the world a new model of development by adding intelligence to empathy and wealth to purpose.
If India is to become a "deep-tech superpower" in areas such as quantum computing, synthetic biology and space technology, Ambani called for strong linkages between industry and academia. At the end of the speech, Dr. Mashelkar, whom Ambani called "Gnana Yogi", stood up and applauded.
