హైదరాబాద్ ఇంధన సామర్థ్య కార్యక్రమాల యొక్క స్పష్టమైన ఫలితాలను హైలైట్ చేస్తూ ఈఈఎస్ఎల్ కొన్ని వార్షిక ప్రయోజనాలను నివేదించింది. వాటిలో 238.83 మిలియన్ యూనిట్లు ఇంధన ఆదా చేసినట్లు తెలిపింది. ఇక గరిష్ట విద్యుత్ డిమాండ్లో తగ్గింపులో భాగంగా 59.49 మెగావాట్లు తగ్గించినట్లు పేర్కొంది. దీనిద్వారా వార్షిక వ్యయ పొదుపు రూ. 193.45 కోట్లు మేర అయ్యిందని వెల్లడించింది. కార్బన్ ఉద్గారాలను 0.19 మిలియన్ టన్నులు తగ్గించామని తెలిపింది.

Hyderabad, December 19: In combating climate change, protecting the interests of future generations. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is showing its commitment. GHMC has announced its full support to the National Energy Conservation Movement aimed at providing long-term benefits to the people within its jurisdiction. GHMC is emerging as one of the largest municipal corporations in the world with a population of over one crore. Soon this population is likely to reach 1.12 crores. GHMC plays a vital role in public administration, urban planning, sanitation and road infrastructure. As part of the city's development agenda, the Corporation has given high priority to energy efficiency (EE) and energy conservation (EC) to improve people's living standards, promote sustainable economic growth and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The GHMC has successfully renovated around 5.53 lakh energy-efficient LED street lights across the city with the support of the Central Government through Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of Central Public Sector Undertakings under the Ministry of Power. The initiative stands as one of India's largest LED street lighting projects in metropolitan cities implemented under the Central National Street Lighting Program (SLNP). As directed by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, GHMC will now further strengthen Hyderabad's street lighting program by adopting global technologies and international service standards. Currently, a special action plan is being prepared in consultation with national energy efficiency experts.
Priority on social responsibility
Commissioner RV Karnan stated that GHMC is intensifying public awareness programs not only on energy efficiency and conservation but also on urban cleanliness, waste management and environmental protection. As part of the National Energy Conservation Week, he unveiled a comprehensive report highlighting the role of energy efficiency in Hyderabad's Climate Action Strategy. The report was prepared by A Chandrasekhar Reddy, Media Advisor, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), in collaboration with EESL and TS Redco, a state-designated agency of the Telangana government. Speaking on this occasion, he said that energy efficiency alone contributes more than 40 percent in solving climate change.
This will increase the global demand. Aveda said that uncontrolled human activities have led to air, water and soil pollution. Wildlife, he said, adversely affects human health and sustainable development. The Commissioner also appreciated the cool roof pilot project at the University of Hyderabad implemented by TS REDCO with financial assistance from BEE. Covering an area of approximately 36,746 square feet, the project is hailed as a significant step forward in creating a climate resilient and energy efficient campus. This is expected to save 7,000 kilowatts of energy annually.
Energy efficiency results in the city
EESL has reported some of the annual benefits of Hyderabad's energy efficiency initiatives highlighting the tangible results. Of them, 238.83 million units have been fuel saved. 59.49 MW has been reduced as part of reduction in peak power demand. This will result in annual cost savings of Rs. 193.45 crores. Carbon emissions have been reduced by 0.19 million tonnes.
Telangana Government in collaboration with Department of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, EESL has completed retrofitting of 5.53 lakh LED street lights in GHHMC area out of total 15.41 lakh street lights across Telangana. GHMC reiterated its strong commitment to align urban governance with national climate goals, global best practices and citizen-centric sustainability outcomes.
