Today, Amaravati: The government has decided to develop roads in cities through public-private partnership (PPP) in the state. 112 kilometers of roads will be developed experimentally in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam at a cost of Rs.478 crores. For this, the Municipal Department will soon invite bids (RFP). The aim is to prioritize quality, transparency in work and long-term management. Repayments will be made in 'Annuity Model' to the contractors who have done the work. The government is planning to implement the same policy in the rest of the cities in a phased manner. New colonies emerged as the surrounding municipalities and panchayats were merged into the municipal corporations. But due to lack of funds, providing infrastructure like roads, canals and drinking water to these areas has become a problem. As a solution to this, the government has decided to develop roads first through public-private partnership. Two days ago, it approved the proposals made by the authorities for experimental implementation in the big cities of Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada.

Municipal bodies will pay 40% of the road construction cost to the contractor in the first year. The remaining 60% of the funds will be deposited over nine years. Special escrow accounts will be maintained for this purpose. The Municipal Department will invite interested companies to submit bids for the management of the works under the annuity model. It is known that some big companies have expressed their willingness for this. A project has been designed keeping them in mind.
