Manchiryala, December 19 (Andhra Jyoti): Pancha Yati Backward castes across the district proved their presence once again by winning the most seats in the elections. It is known that the High Court put brakes on the state government's decision to implement 42 percent reservation for BC social groups in Sarpanch elections. According to the Supreme Court's order that reservations should not be more than 50 percent, some challenged the government's decision in the High Court on the implementation of BC reservations. The High Court also cited the same point and opposed the implementation of 42 percent. As a result, the state government, which has taken alternative measures, has decided to give priority to BCs in unreserved seats. However, it seems that it has been decided to allocate the general positions to the candidates belonging to that social group, instead of the 42 percent reservation as decided earlier. In the background of difficult implementation of reservations for backward castes officially... it is reported that they have been given an opportunity in terms of the party.

An opportunity for BCs in the general category...

Based on the Supreme Court guidelines, there is a provision that reservation for all categories should not be more than 50 percent. As per the comprehensive caste census survey conducted in the state, as the BCs are more than 50 percent, it is known that the Congress state leadership has decided to provide 42 percent reservation to those belonging to that social group in order to provide proportionate reservation to the population. Relieved by the Supreme Court's order that the total reservation should not exceed 50 percent, the government has taken corrective measures. As a part of this, a decision was taken by giving an opportunity in the general category. Officially, 23 percent reservation has been given to the BCs, while the rest of the seats have been given an opportunity from the general category.

44.8 percent seats for the general...

While the elections were held in 306 gram panchayats of the district, 35 of them are agency panchayats. Apart from them, there are 268 Gram Panchayats under non-agency, especially Schedule Tribe GPs and three. In total 306 pan chayats in the district, seats are allotted to different communities in proportion to the population. A total of 65 seats have been allotted to the ST category under a quota of 21.2 percent in Sarpanch posts. Also, 81 seats under 26.5 percent in SC category and 23 seats in BC category with 7.5 percent have been allotted. Also, another 137 seats with 44.8 percent of the unreserved quota have been allotted. Similarly, BCs have been given the highest number of ward member posts. Out of 2680 ward seats in the district, 204 seats are in agency area, 2452 seats are in non-agency area and 24 are 100 percent ST wards. Out of the total number of wards, 457 seats are reserved for STs under 17 percent reservation, 599 seats are reserved for SCs with 22 percent reservation, 334 seats are reserved for BCs with 12.4 percent reservation, and 1290 seats are reserved for general category with 48.13 percent.

38 percent seats are reserved for BCs. Kaivasam...

BCs got a total of 38 percent seats in the district in the panchayat elections. Officially, 23 seats have been allotted to that social group under 7.5 percent reservation. Also, 137 seats out of 44.8 have been allocated to the general category in the district. Out of these, 23 seats won by BCs and another 91 seats from general category were won by BCs. In this order, BCs won a total of 114 Sarpanch seats, while the leaders of that social group won 37.74 percent of the seats. According to this calculation, about 38 percent reservation has been implemented unofficially for BCs. In the general category seats won by BCs, there are candidates supported by BRS and BJP including the ruling Congress.... The campaign is going on in the villages that all the major parties have given priority to the social class.
