Though our staff immediately reached the accident spot, shifted the injured to the hospital and made all possible efforts to save lives, we could not prevent this loss. To ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future, we have conducted an inspection of the high-risk area on the tank bund in collaboration with senior police officers and taken stringent preventive measures. We have also conducted a comprehensive review of the accidents taking place there under various government departments. We make it clear that a birthday is a private family celebration and should be celebrated only at homes or in any safe, enclosed space.
As there is no pedestrian traffic on the roads at midnight, vehicles speed uncontrollably. Everyone should realize that it is unwise to bring small children along and come in the middle of the road at such a time. In fact, such celebrations on the Tank Bund are strictly prohibited as per the rules. GHMC has issued clear orders on this in the past.
Despite our police constantly patrolling and dispersing the comers, these tragedies keep repeating as people return to celebrate midnight.
