Emergency Location Service | Internet Desk: Google has brought a new feature for Android smartphone users in India. Launched Emergency Location Services (ELS) in the country. This feature provides your location when you call or text emergency services such as police, fire, or medical. In order to avail these services, the respective state governments have to link ELS with their emergency services. Uttar Pradesh Police Department first introduced this service.
When someone calls the emergency services department from an Android phone, their exact location details are automatically shared with the other party. Location details will be received even if the call is disconnected due to any reason. ELS works on the basis of GPS, WiFi and cellular network. This feature works when calling 112 or other emergency number. Google clarified that it does not require additional hardware or apps. It suggested that other states should adopt it like Uttar Pradesh. This feature is said to work for Android 6 and later version devices. Google has made it clear that Google will not collect this data.
