Mangaluru: Rs.5 thousand in student account if enrolled in school

Mangalore: Attendance percentage of students in government schools in Karnataka Reports say that it is on the decline. In this background, Ashoknagar Primary School (Kannada Medium) which has a hundred years of history in Mangalore has launched an innovative program. A bank account is opened free of charge in the name of new students joining the school and Rs.5 thousand is deposited in it. Officials revealed that this is the first time such a program has been undertaken in the district and it has been started to encourage parents to enroll in government schools. This is being done with the help of donors.

The school teachers disclosed that they opened bank accounts for 17 students this academic year and deposited cash. He said that ten of them were students of the first class. This money is fixed deposit for a period of five years. However, he said that there is a shortage of teachers to teach at full capacity and the school is running with the help of guest teachers. However, students are being trained in singing, karate, painting and yoga for free.
