Warning on 'cyber security' for Chrome, WhatsApp users!

Internet Desk: Google Chrome browser errors, Officials said cyber criminals are targeting people through methods like WhatsApp account takeover. They warn that there is a risk of data theft and financial loss. Therefore, Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) Director Shikha Goel has warned that people should be alert. Users are advised to update their apps and not share OTPs or verification codes with anyone. In case of any doubt, she said in a post on TGCSB's platform 'X', appealing to call 1930 immediately or file a complaint. What type of attack? What to do and other things are explained in it.
How can this attack happen?
- Chrome attack: If you open a malicious weblink/URL abuse can happen through a bug in Chrome.
- Your browser data, saved passwords data will get unauthorized.
Through WhatsApp takeover (ghost pairing attack)..
- A fake link/message will come either through Facebook photo tag or through offers or warning.
- If you think the link is genuine and enter WhatsApp verification/pairing code.. Criminals will pair their device through linked devices.
- Your WhatsApp will continue to work. Criminals also monitor your WhatsApp chat.
What to do?
- If you suspect that your account is under the supervision of a criminal.. Stop using the app/browser in question immediately.
- Save all credentials. Take screenshots of messages, links, pop ups.
- Save transaction IDs, UTR numbers, call logs.
- Check linked devices on WhatsApp.
- If linked to unknown devices delete immediately.
- Google Chrome to latest version Update.
- Change e-mail, banking, social media passwords.
- Inform your bank/payment app in case of cash related transactions
Be careful..
- Update Chrome, all apps regularly.
- Do not share OTP, PIN, CVV, WhatsApp codes to anyone.
- Unknown or urgent. Don't click on fake links.
- Enable two step verification on WhatsApp.
- Don't login on unknown websites.
