NEWSTODAY, CORPORATION: Encroachers are stripping the bypass road in the city. The trees planted in the name of Avenue Plantation are being cut down, bypass drains are being buried and the road is being converted into plots by spending Rs. 8 km from Pistahouj to Bhutpur road junction. At many places along the side of the bypass road, the canal is being demolished, buried, flattened and encroached upon. It is noteworthy that the city planning department has closed its eyes even though this turmoil continues in broad daylight.
All this within a year..
The bypass road was constructed with four rows in an area of 200 feet. While the divider is 4 feet, 80 feet of tarmac has been laid on both sides of the road. Another 20 feet of road on both sides and another 8 feet of canal on both sides. In the remaining 12 feet area, green saplings were planted under the avenue plantation on both sides of the road less than four years ago. They have now grown into trees. Encroachments on the bypass road have been rampant for a year. Owners who have their own lands and plots next to the road are cutting trees. Nala Pudches are being converted into plots.

Some are simultaneously setting up bakery and tea houses, while others are renting out places to set up dhabas. When ``Enadu'' inspected at the field level, 18 business complexes have already emerged on both sides of the road on this route. Some of them erased the bypass boundaries and cut down the trees and buried them. Town planning department officials are aware of this matter but are not taking any action against the encroachers. The people of the city complain that there has been no encroachment on this road in ten years, trees used to be green, encroachment has increased since last year, trees are being cut and they are drying up due to lack of water.
