Karimnagar Town, December 23 (Andhra Jyoti): The dream of owning a home for the poor remains a dream. The government has announced that they will build Indiramma houses for those who have no land, and five lakhs will be sanctioned for those who have land and cannot afford to build houses. Thousands of people have applied for Indiramma houses in the city. They are roaming around the offices as they are not granted. Those who build houses with land are divided into L-1 category and L-2 category for Indiramma houses without actual land. 28 thousand homeless people have applied under L-2 category under Karimnagar Municipal Corporation. Even one of them has not been granted a house till now. 660 Indiramma houses have been constructed in Padmanagar to give to the beneficiaries in this category. Beneficiaries are not selected. The applicants are waiting for when the houses will be allotted.
Problems with restrictions and rules
Many people are applying to build houses if there is a house plot in L-1 category and financial assistance of five lakhs. The government has given permission to grant houses to 1,700 people in the L-1 category. A total of 3,500 Indiramma houses have been sanctioned in Karimnagar constituency, while 1,700 houses have been sanctioned in the corporation. Proceedings have been issued sanctioning five lakhs to 1,510 people by selecting the eligible beneficiaries as per the rules. Five lakh rupees is not enough to keep up with the rising cost of house construction. Many restrictions and regulations are being imposed on the construction of houses. As a result, 110 applicants rejected the proceedings saying that we do not want these houses. While 1,391 people have started house construction work, some are having difficulty in not being able to build houses according to the money and regulations. Officials are taking steps to select 110 rejected beneficiaries and 200 more beneficiaries. Those who have land and build a house under this scheme will have to build a house with a construction area of not less than 400 SFT and not more than 600 SFT. No more than two feet of slab should be placed around the house. Slab should be only up to six feet in front. Do not build pillars on slab. They are restricting the construction of stairs to be the same. People want to increase the financial assistance given by the government, relax the rules and grant Indiramma houses to the homeless immediately.
