Vijayawada City, December 22 (Andhra Jyoti) :The city hosted the Yonex Sunrise Shuttle Badminton National Championships. The seven-day competition in the Senior Seetra and Men's categories began on Monday at the Chennupati Ramakotaya Indoor Stadium in the city. Andhra Pradesh Badminton Association (APBA) organizes these competitions under the auspices of Badminton Association of India (BAI). On the first day, the competitions were held in the 78th Team Championship category. The 87th National Competition will start from Tuesday. Teams from six Indian institutions from 33 states represented the competition. 500 athletes of national and international level have come to participate in these competitions. MP Keshineni Sivanath (Chinni) along with MLA Gadde Rammohan started the competition. Star shuttler PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanta participated in this competition. Swachhandra Corporation Chairman Pattabhiram, SAP Chairman Ravinayudu and MD Bharani watched the fierce competition on the first day. As the team championship competitions started with the quarters itself, the teams struggled to keep their hopes alive in the semis. Players sweated in the singles, doubles and mixed doubles categories as only winning three out of five matches in the quarters allowed them to enter the semis. Many celebrities and sports fans said that they have only seen the way they play in international and Olympic competitions so far in the media, and seeing them directly gave them great joy. The team championship competition started with Sindhu's singles game. Winning the first match itself, she shone in the doubles section in the afternoon and took the Andhra Pradesh women's team to the semi-finals. In another women's singles, Vijayawada player T. Suryacharishma also won. Kidambi Srikanta also faced the Tamil Nadu team in the team championship men's singles. Star shuttler PV Sindhu shined in the team championship category. According to the draw, AP and Uttarakhand faced each other first in the women's singles category. Sindhu and Suryacharishma, who represented AP, won the upper hand over the rival Uttarakhand players. In the doubles held in the afternoon, Sindhu-Kavipriya pair defeated the Uttarakhand pair by 21-11, 21-17. The AP team entered the semi-finals after winning 3-0. Sindhu faced the Gujarat team in the semi-final. In the men's category, the AP team lost to Tamil Nadu and exited in the quarters. Arjuna Awardee Kidambi Srikanta represented AP in men's singles.
Armored arrangements
APBA representatives made armored arrangements for these competitions which were attended by shuttle giants from across the country. Competitions are being conducted under the supervision of 100 top referees in the country. Care has been taken to avoid any trouble to the players. Strong security arrangements have been made in the vicinity of the sports ground. South, West, East, North, North East and Central zones of the country were represented in the team championship. Indian Railways, Indian Petroleum Corporation, Life Insurance Company (LIC), Food Corporation of India (FCI), Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Comptroller Audit General (CAG) along with teams from 33 states are representing the 87th Senior Nationals. Keshine was inaugurated by Chinni and MLA Gadde Rammohan. Swachhandra Corporation Chairman Pattabhiram, Andhra Pradesh Sports Authority (SAP) Chairman Ravinayudu, MD Bharani, Director Santosh, APBA President Dwarkanath, P.Ankammachoudhary, former Mayor Koneru Sridhar, NTR District DSDO Koteswara Rao participated in this program. Speaking on the occasion, MP Keshineni Chinni said that a sports university would soon come to the state. He said that AP is going to become a state that prepares coaches for the country. He said that there is a need to organize more national level competitions in Vijayawada. Sap wants to work hard to organize national sports competitions. MP congratulated the representatives of APBA who worked hard to organize Badminton National Competition in Vijayawada. It was announced on stage that CM Chandrababu has agreed to attend the closing ceremony.
