Vijayawada City, December 21:The corporation has divided the city's 64 divisions into six malaria divisions and allocated a budget of Rs 3 crore only for mosquito control. With these funds, steps should be taken to prevent Anothan, which causes the spread of malaria, Aedes, which causes the spread of dengue, and Culex, which grows in sewage water and causes the spread of Bodhakal disease. Along with prevention of larvae in drainages, spraying, applying oil balls and fogging should be done to prevent mosquitoes. Corporation officials are expecting more rains this year and the growth of mosquitoes. It is against this backdrop that the authorities appointed 60 additional workers to work for six months only (until December) in June this year. Already there are 264 workers for this department under the corporation.

At present 324 people are working. Officials have newly purchased 128 sawing machines, two per division, with the allocated budgets for radical mosquito control. Along with these some autos and spraying machines were also purchased. The office records show that chemicals (VIT Liquid, Themophocus, ML Oil, Pyratram, etc.) are being purchased once in three months. Despite the availability of chemicals, machines, workers and sufficient funds for mosquito control, there are many allegations that the results are not visible at the field level. In the council meeting, the corporators said with open arms that mosquito control measures are not being done properly. The TDP and YCP corporators, who accused each other of political agendas, came together when the mosquito problem was mentioned.

However, no action was taken. In one or two places, it is recorded in the papers that mosquito prevention measures have been taken, and there are criticisms that they are taking pictures and showing their hands. It seems that the negligence of the corporation officials is the main reason for the growth of mosquitoes. The sewage accumulating in the disorganized drainages in the city is becoming a habitat for mosquitoes. The larvae develop in the sewage and increase the number of mosquitoes. Criticism is coming that the special machines to remove the sewage accumulated in the dredges are limited to the depot.

Spreading diseases

Due to mosquitoes, the spread of Bodhakala disease is increasing in the city recently. Doctors say that if a Culex mosquito bites 150 times, this disease will occur. Corporation officials say that six people have been affected by this disease in the city in the past week. Although the lack of dengue and malaria outbreaks is a relief, if the measures to prevent mosquitoes are not speeded up, the cases are likely to increase.

'In the past, mosquitoes only bit at night. It has been stinging even during the day for a few months. The authorities did not take any action to control the mosquitoes. Spraying work is not done anywhere. People are falling victim to preacher disease. However, the authorities are acting as if they don't care," said the ruling and opposition corporators in the council meeting held at the 10th Municipal Corporation office this month. The corporators themselves are talking about the problem.. Despite receiving frequent complaints about mosquito breeding.. Recently, the number of teachers getting infected is increasing as the authorities are not paying attention. Spraying and fogging work is going on continuously in all divisions. We are placing oil balls in the areas where sewage is stored. We are taking action on the orders of Commissioner Dhyanchandra. Biologist V. Kameswara Rao said that preparations are being made to install mosquito sensors and elevation machines in the coming days.
